The USDA is going to start requiring all restaurants to scan for government-issued identification cards at the check-in counter.

I have a big problem with this. If you don’t have a government-issued identification, you have to be a “federal worker.” They can’t just put you on a “waiting list” in order to get your ID. I can’t understand how a government who has to keep track of everyone’s legal status can’t just require identification at the check-in counter.

To make matters worse, they’re planning to require drivers licenses and military ID’s. I dont think this is a good idea. I would much rather have an ID that allows me to fly, but I dont think this is going to happen. I think we should have a few more options.

Thats all well and good, but I just have a couple of questions.

Yes, you can just get your government issued ID and then just go to the airport with it. But I don’t think that’s all that much of a problem.

First of all, you don’t have to register with the government to fly anywhere. You just book a ticket in advance with the airline. The airline does not give you a government identification. A lot of people I know fly out of the airport because they have a government ID. But if you want to fly somewhere, you have to register with the FAA with your own government identification.

Although you do have to register with the government, you don’t have to show it to the TSA or a cop at any point. They can just search your bag for a government ID. So even if you dont have your government ID, you can still fly without it. If you have a government ID, the TSA can search your bag if you’re carrying something that you dont show them. But in general, the TSA will never search your bag for anything that you dont have to show them.

I’m not sure what it really means. The actual number of people who have the FAA’s Identification Number is more than enough to fill a room.

TSA is, of course, not the only one who wants to search your bag. A lot of airports have private security, and some even have TSA agents, who are just as much on the take as TSA is. In any case, the TSA does not search your bag for anything that you dont have to show them.

Of course, it is not always just your bag that gets the “thumbs up” treatment. If you have a carryon, your luggage will get a thumbs up, as will your luggage that has been checked into a private room (also called a “locker”). The same goes for most airline luggage (and most hotel luggage).
