I am a member of the Michigan State Assembly in Michigan. I recently returned from a trip to Minnesota and am proud to say that the state of Michigan has not only not passed a law banning smoking in all public places, but the tobacco companies have been fined thousands of dollars for not complying with the law.
People are generally more curious about things they’re not allowed to do in their homes than they are about anything they’re allowed to do in their homes.
As a member of the Michigan State Assembly, I have been to the state capitol, the state senate, and the state house. I have never been to a smoking-free state; I have even seen a billboard stating “smoke free” on one of the state’s bridges.
I have also been to the state capitol and state senate where I was able to see smoke-free signs, but I have never been to the state house, where I was able to see smoke-free signs only because I was not in the state capitol or state senate. I might have been able to see smoke-free signs the other three times I went, but I think that was because I was in the state house for a different reason.

I know of many people who have smoked in the state house and state senate. Some people have even been arrested there. There are even a few people who have been convicted for it. I believe a state law is currently making it illegal to smoke in the capitol and senate, but that probably won’t be enforced for a while.
I feel like it’s a small thing, but I think it’s an important one. Smoking is the number one cause of death for smokers in the state of Michigan, according to the state’s Department of Community Health. In my opinion, that’s a pretty good number to lose any sense of self-awareness.
People are always so quick to judge smokers, but smokers are also always quick to judge others who do not smoke. There’s often a lot of fear associated with quitting. Many times people who do not smoke may think that quitting is easy and that they can just go out and smoke all the time. But if you quit then you probably will not always feel that you are “safer” or that you don’t “hurt too much”.
The truth is we all smoke. There is no reason to judge that everyone who smokes is a bad person. There is no reason to feel that you should hide from the fact that you smoke. It’s just the way our society is.
I’ve never smoked, but I do occasionally smoke with friends and family. I do not feel that the smoking laws in my home state of Michigan have anything to do with the laws in my home state of California. We all have the freedom to choose the type of tobacco products that we want to use in our homes.
