This map was created in midland flood relief by the Texas Department of Transportation to give the public a better picture of flooding in Texas.
So it’s been a year since the massive flood in midland left over 100,000 people homeless and caused an estimated $10 billion in damage. While the area in midland has been receiving some repair, the flood is taking a toll on the area itself. We hope that the flood relief map is useful for other areas in the state to better understand the damage the flood has caused.
In case you’re wondering, Midland isn’t the only one in the area that is getting flooded. Two weeks ago, we got a flood of water down the road from north Houston to the river just south of the river. The problem is that the river isn’t as wide as it used to be, allowing water to flood into the area from the west. Now that’s a problem.
The midland flood map is being made by The Floodmap Project and the US Army Corps of Engineers. This map is being made with the help of volunteers and the map itself isnt being made up of high resolution satellite images. The map itself will show you a large area of the floodplain and will be updated every 3 hours or so, so you should be able to see the progress of the river.
