This is the issue with so many of the firearms laws and regulations in America. Many of them aren’t based on how the Constitution was written, but on the need to protect our rights. For example, if someone is caught stealing a gun, the law says they have to leave the state. Most of us have no idea how that works, but it is part of our normal human reactions to our surroundings.
In the end, it would be nice if guns were as easy to get as cars. But it gets worse. There are a ton of gun manufacturers out there now who dont even realize they need a license to make guns. And not just any gun companies, but gun companies that make guns for the military and police departments. The problem is that all of these “gun makers” are also the primary suppliers of guns to the police and to the military.
I’d like something a little more like a car. I’d like to be able to buy a car without a license and take it anywhere I wanted and not have to worry about it getting broken into. But in order to do so, I’d have to be licensed. And yet, not only am I not licensed to buy a car, I’m not even allowed to buy a car without a license.
That’s an interesting concept that I haven’t seen in action. It seems that you can purchase a gun without actually buying a gun. But you can’t purchase a gun without actually having a gun. What’s the difference? If you’re a criminal, you cannot purchase a gun without actually having a license to purchase one. (And this is only for handguns.) Your gun is not your car.
Im not sure what Id expect from having no license, but it seems to actually be a good idea. I mean, its not like anyone would actually want someone to shoot at them or something. Even someone who is just a little bit crazy doesnt want to be responsible for someone getting shot. Well, thats all fine and dandy, I guess.
What if youre a criminal, and you dont have a license to buy a gun? If youre not even a criminal, they dont have a license to buy any guns.
The main reason to own a gun is the fact that you can’t carry it around the house with you. Its not like you can just walk into your neighbor’s house and pick up a gun and take it. It might be a good idea if you are someone who wants to be able to shoot at bad guys, but otherwise, it makes no sense. You can take a gun out for target practice or whatever, but you cant carry it around the house.
Also, unless you are someone who has been convicted of a felony, you can’t buy a gun without a license. If you are a convicted felon, you can still buy a gun, but you would need a state-issued license to carry a gun around the state.
So, if you want to have a gun you have to obtain a license to buy a gun. This is a pretty serious barrier for many people, and that’s part of why gun ownership and gun sales is so regulated. Also, there is a federal law that has to be obeyed, which is another hurdle to overcome.
That’s why you have to have a gun license. You have to be at least 21 years old to buy a gun. But it’s not just a personal, individual decision that people have to make. The federal government has to register every gun in the United States and it takes three to five years to get the registration. Once the required paperwork is complete, it has to be approved by the ATF.
